Day 02 Mexico
After breakfast, proceed to city tour of Mexico City. Panoramic city tour along the Reforma Avenue to the his-toric city center with the main square, the Cathedral and the National Palace. Next stop is the Basilica of Guadalupe. Then continue north to see the Pyramids of Teotihuacan, the most important and impressive ruin site in all Central America. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03 Mexico
After breakfast, proceed to this panoramic city tour shows you all the highlights of the southern part of the city: Insurgentes Avenue, the historic colonial Coyoacan with its Zocalo and the Blue House. Head south to the floating gardens of Xochimilco for a ride on a trajineras through the ancient canals (flowers, bever-ages and Mariachi music extra). On the way back down-town, pass the University Cityand and end the tours at the Museum of Anthropology, considered a cultural “must see” in Mexico City. Operating daily except Mondays. Day 02 Mexico

Guided walking tour to see Santa Prisca church at the Zocalo and the silver bazaar. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02 Mexico
After breakfast, proceed to city tour of Mexico City. The morning city tour will concentrate on the area of the Zocalo. It will include visits to the 18th century cathedral, the national palace with the famous murals by Diego Rivera and there will be an option for those who wish to visit the ruins of the ‘templo mayor’ (not included in the price). This is a recently-discovered ruin of an Aztec temple next to the cathedral and it also has a small museum. The afternoon will be devoted to the museum of anthropology, considered the best of its kind. It displays many treasures of the different pre-Hispanic Mexican cultures. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03 Mexico
After breakfast, proceed to the tour will first stop at the plaza of 3 cultures, so-called because of the ruins of an Aztec temple, a church from the Spanish conquest and a ‘modern’ housing estate all to be seen in the area. The tour continues to the basilica of Guadalupe – the most important religious shrine in all Mexico and America’s pilgrimage center, the people can appreciate the old basilica as well as the newer building. Then the tour continues to the imposing pyramids of Teotihuacan, probably the greatest vestige of the Aztec empire, where the people will visit the two pyramids of the sun and the moon, the temple of Quetzatcoatl, walk along the ‘avenue of the dead’ and also visit the museum.

Day 04 Mexico–Queretaro–San Miguel–Guanajuato (365 kms / 6H 30M appx.)
After breakfast, out to Tepozotlan, where one of the greatest treasures of the colonial era lies, – the museo virreinal which was originally the church of San Francisco Javier, built from 1670 to 1682, the facade, with its single tower is a phantasmagoric array of carved saints, angels, people, plants and more, while the interior walls are covered with a circus of gilded and multicoloured ornamentation. It was in the 1960s that the church, its adjacent monastery and peaceful gardens were restored and transformed into the museum. After visiting this impressive museum you will carry on to the city of Queretaro, conquered by the Spaniards in 1531, becoming -in the early 19th century- a centre of intrigue among the criollos plotting to free Mexico from Spanish rule. There will be a short walking tour of the centre of the city, which looks so much like a typical city of Spain. Continuing on from here the next stop will be the lovely town of San Miguel De Allende, which is an attraction for artists of all types, because of its beautiful cobble-stoned streets lined with bougainvillaea and houses opening out into courtyards. There will be a visit to the magnificent cathedral before you continue on to your destination for the night, Guanajuato. Overnight at hotel.

Day 05 Guanajuato
After breakfast, the day will be devoted to a visit to this most famous colonial city. For two centuries almost 40% of the world’s silver was mined in Guanajuato, the silver and gold mines found here were among the richest in the world, many of the colonial structures built from this wealth remain intact, making Guanajuato a living monument. We will visit such famous buildings as the cathedral, containing a jewel-covered image of the virgin, patroness of Guanajuato, given to the city by Phillip ii of Spain in thanks for riches which accrued to the crown and of course the famous “Callejon del beso”, the narrowest of the many narrow alleys (or “Callejones”), legend says that lovers living on opposite sides used to exchange furtive kisses from these balconies. You will feel as if you are in ‘old Spain’ as you walk through this marvellous legacy of the Spanish conquest. Return to the hotel and at night there will be a chance to hear one of the typical “Estudiantina” bands which perform in the streets of Guanajuato. Overnight at hotel.

Day 06 Guanajuato – Morelia (200 Kms / 6H appx.)
After breakfast, you will leave Guanajuato and drive south to the state of Michoacan and its beautiful capital city of Morelia, officially founded in 1541. Virrey Antonio de Mendoza named it Valladolid, after the Spanish city of that name and encouraged families of Spanish nobility to move here. These families remained, and maintained Valladolid as a very Spanish city, at least architecturally until 1828. Even today, with its downtown streets lined by colonial buildings, Morelia still looks as Spanish as it probably did before independence. The scenic drive will take you past the lovely lakes of Yuriria and Cuitzeo – the road actually runs along a causeway over the latter lake. On arrival in Morelia there will be a walking tour with the magnificent cathedral being the centre of attraction, it took over a century to build, from 1640 to 1744, architecturally, it is a combination of Herresque, baroque and neo-classical styles. It has a sculpture of the senor de la sacristia made from dried maize and topped with a gold crown from the 16th century Spanish king Phillip ii. Overnight at hotel.

Day 07 Morelia
After breakfast, proceed to just a short drive away from Morelia. Is the peaceful lake of Patzcuaro. This will be the destination for the day. You will pass through small villages with such names as Tzintzuntzan (place of hummingbirds in purepecha language) before reaching the lake. On arrival you will board a launch which will take you out to the island of Janitzio, the largest island in the lake. The launch trip offers views of villages along the shore while local fishermen demonstrate the use of their famous butterfly-shaped fishing nets. There is a huge statue to the independence hero, Morelos, dominating the island, inside the statue is a set of murals depicting his life, you have the choice to climb up inside all the way to his raised fist, from which there is a terrific view. Time will be spent on the island in order to explore all the area and the return to Morelia will be in the late afternoon. Overnight at hotel.

Day 04 Mexico–Tuxtla – Flight/Tuxtla – San Cristobal (59 Kms/1H appx.)
After breakfast, proceed to the airport for flight from Mexico City MEX to Tuxtla Gutierrez TGZ. Just at the other side of the town is the magnificent Sumidero Canyon, where the River Grijalva cuts its way through the high rock formations. This is the place where the local Indians hurled themselves into the Canyon rather than submit to the Spanish Conquerors. The group will be taken on a spectacular boat ride into the Canyon itself that will give you the chance to see it at it’s best. Following this to San Cristobal is about another hour. Overnight at hotel.

Day 05 San Cristobal
After breakfast, proceed to the Indian villages of San Juan Chamula and Zinancantan lie just outside San Cristobal. San Juan Chamula is where the Chamula Indians live and there will be a visit to the special church where they carry out their religious practices no cameras allowed !. Zinacantan is where the Indians wear brightly-coloured clothes, the road to this village offers a fabulous scenery! Again no photos allowed! In the afternoon there will be time to walk around San Cristobal and see some of the beautiful colonial architecture of the city. Overnight at hotel.

Day 06 San Cristobal – Palenque  (250 Kms / 5H appx.)
After breakfast, proceed to the road to Palenque comes out of the Chiapan Highlands and down to the more jungle-like scenery in the area of the famous ruins. About 1 hour out of nearby the road are the beautiful Waterfalls of Agua Azul, considered one of the wonders of Mexico, the water comes straight out of the mountains and cascades down several falls into turquoise pools surrounded by jungle. The people can swim there if they so wish. Continuation to Palenque afterwards. Overnight at hotel.

Day 07 Palenque – Campeche (300 Kms / 6H appx.)
After breakfast, proceed to the whole morning is taken up with visiting the extensive ruins at Palenque, surrounded by emerald jungle, Palenque’s setting is superb and its Mayan architecture and decoration are exquisite, at the peak of Palenque’s power, the entire city was painted vermilion, you should not miss the crypt in the Temple of inscriptions and the museum, everything you will see here was achieved without metal tools, pack animals or the wheel! From there it is on to Campeche, a city filled with historic buildings. Overnight at hotel.

Day 08 Campeche – Merida (200 Kms / 3H 30M appx.)
After breakfast, proceed to the distance from Campeche to Merida is relatively short and between there are the ruins at Uxmal and Kabah. The first ruins visited are at Kabah, undoubtedly the most impressive building here is the Palace of the Masks, offering an amazing sight, with its façade covered in nearly 300 masks of Chac, the rain god or sky serpent. Then one of the highlights of Yucatan, the ruins at Uxmal. There will be plenty of time to visit all the major points of the ruins such as the Pyramid of the magician, the Nunnery quadrangle, the House of turtles and the Governor’s Palace before continuing on to Merida to arrive in the late afternoon. Overnight at hotel.

Day 09 Merida – Chichen Itza – Cancun (301 Kms / 6H appx.)
After breakfast, proceed to the new highway from Merida to Cancun passes by Chichen Itza, one of the largest and best kept sites in Mexico. It actually is two cities, one ruled by the Mayans during the 6th – 10th centuries, and the older, a Toltec-Mayan city emerged around 1000 AD. Don’t miss the towering Castillo with its cosmological symbolism – There are 365 steps depicting the solar year, 52 panels for each year in the Mayan century and 18 terraces for the number of months in the religious year. The enormous ball court nearby, is the largest ever discovered, and is lined with fascinating carvings. Continuation to the world-famous resort of Cancun is direct and the road is very straight. Overnight at hotel.

Day 10 Cancun
After breakfast, day at leisure to enjoy the beautiful waters and the clear – white sand of Cancun. Overnight at hotel.
